But first, you need to know which certification will set you apart in the job market. As of 2026, there is a significant structural change to how several of these certifications now work. This guide covers every ServiceNow Certification, the learning path they belong to, and exactly what’s changed from last year.

What ServiceNow Certification Path is Right for You?

The advantage of cloud-based technology is that you cannot limit what you can do. With a multitude of career options and opportunities, ServiceNow offers four primary learning paths for its users. These paths vary with the core modules and functionalities of the platform. Here is everything you need to determine the right ServiceNow Certification Path. 

ServiceNow System Administrator Learning Path

If you’re drawn to managing and maintaining the ServiceNow platform, the Administrator certification path is for you. Administration is the most basic yet fundamental part of a platform. This path covers the most essential elements of the Now Platform, such as configuration, user management, and ensuring seamless platform operation. To get started, you must ace the platform’s basics and fundamentals. After which you can consider taking the ServiceNow System Administrator certification. This certification will open paths to learning automation, advanced administration, and generative AI functionalities. Further, you can proceed to development or implementation as well.

ServiceNow Developer Learning Path

The ServiceNow Developer Learning path is for people who want to get into development on the ServiceNow platform. If you have some understanding of coding, then you will be ideal for this path. ServiceNow Application Developer certification is the official credential in this path for which you must know configuration, scripting and integrations. As you will be developing custom solutions, the learning journey will require you to have hands-on experience. There are two options – Citizen Developer and Application Developer that you can pursue in this learning path.

As a Certified Application Developer (CAD), you’ll learn to:

• Design application tables.
• Create and implement forms.
• Control access to applications.
• Integrate workflows seamlessly into the Now Platform.

For aspiring developers looking to specialize in a specific ServiceNow product, this path empowers you to harness the platform’s full potential.

ServiceNow Process and Platform Owner Learning Path

The ServiceNow Process and Platform Owner learning path is for professionals who wish to choose a personalized profession. It requires a thorough understanding of the Admin fundamentals and experience with Now Create. 

These professionals customize the platform and monitor it regularly for any upgrades. They also ensure they create and run responsive reports or dashboards per the organization’s requirements.

A related option now exists for non-technical leaders: the Certified Platform Owner Accreditation (CPOA). It is focused on professionals with 3 to 5 years of experience managing a ServiceNow Platform who don’t configure or code directly, and covers platform strategy, governance, and stakeholder management.

At the same time, you can also take a specialization course like ITSM or CSM in the path for career development. 

ServiceNow Implementer Learning Path

The ServiceNow Implementation Specialist certification is the reward in the Implementer learning path. With multiple scopes of specialization in specific ServiceNow products, it is focused on platform deployment. It is a strong fit if you want a career in consultancy or implementation, with courses spanning HR Service Delivery, ITSM, ITOM, Customer Service Management and more. 

If your target specialization is one of the seven affected CIS certifications, CIS Data Foundation is now a required step in this process. Effectively, it is a new Step Zero before you can even register for certification like CIS-ITSM. ServiceNow Architect Learning Path (New Segment)

It is worth calling out as its own path now that ServiceNow has formalized it. ArchX has become a recognized launchpad into ServiceNow’s expert-level architecture Certification. It is designed for early to mid-level architects with 1-3 years of experience. ArchX requires CSA plus at least one CIS certificate. From there, it feeds directly into the Certified Technical Architect (CTA), Certified Master Architect (CMA), and the new Certified CRM Architect (CRMA) in 2026.

CIS-Data Foundation is Now Mandatory(New Segment)

This is the biggest structural change to the ServiceNow Certification program in recent years, and here’s a detailed coverage. 

Effective November 18, 2025, ServiceNow made the CIS-Data Foundation, which covers CMDB and CSDM, a mandatory prerequisite for seven certifications. 

• Certified Implementation Specialist – IT Service Management (ITSM)
• Certified Implementation Specialist – Hardware Asset Management (HAM)
• Certified Implementation Specialist – Discovery
• Certified Implementation Specialist – Software Asset Management (SAM)
• Certified Implementation Specialist – Service Mapping 
• Certified Implementation Specialist – Security Incident Response 
• Certified Implementation Specialist – Vulnerability Response 

If you are pursuing any of these certifications for the first time, you cannot schedule the exam until you have completed the CIS-DF, even if you’ve completed training and purchased access under the old system.

If you already have any of the seven certifications, then until December 31, 2026, you can pass CIS-DF  or have that certification’s active status lapse. This may affect the standings you may have held for years. So it’s worth prioritizing, even if it feels non-urgent right now. 

ServiceNow is running CIS-DF proctored exams free of charge through June 2026. As long as you register by that date, you lock in a free attempt with a 90-day window to schedule it, and passing would earn you a Credly Digital badge. After that window closes, standard exam pricing will apply. 

New Expert Certification: Certified CRM Architect (CRMA)

With ServiceNow’s 2025 launch of “ServiceNow CRM”, the company introduced a new expert-tier credential to match Certified CRM Architect (CRMA). It is aimed at implementers, architects, and consultants working on CRM deployment. The registration opened on 4 March, 2026, with the associate course beginning in May 2026. 

The requirements are a step-by-step design. The applicant needs experience across five or more CRM implementation projects, alongside CSA and at least one relevant CIS certification. At the same time, the cost is higher than mainline certifications, at roughly $ 4,000, consistent with ServiceNow’s other expert-tier programs, such as CMA and CTA.

Expert Certifications

ServiceNow Expert Certifications are for people with 5-10 years of experience using the ServiceNow platform. Expert Programs currently runs two certification programs:

Mainline Certifications

ServiceNow Mainline Certifications are the primary cluster of certificates for beginners and professionals. Through these, you will need to prove your level of accomplishment with technical knowledge and skills of the ServiceNow Platform. These Certifications may encompass a knowledge check, a practical application assessment, or both. 

The following paths with the ServiceNow certification cost are available:

ServiceNow retired its exam voucher system in late 2025 alongside the move to Pearson VUE. There are no vouchers available to purchase and redeem.

The registration itself now requires direct payments, and fees are non-refundable once you join. Make sure to confirm the current pricing on ServiceNow University before registering, since subject is subject to change and may vary by region.

How Exam Registration Works Now 

Currently, exam registration and delivery no longer go via Webassessor. All ServiceNow exams are now registered through ServiceNow University and delivered via Pearson VUE.
